Overview

A domain name is the name you type to get to a website - for example
http://www.multiverse.com.au

If you're planning a business site, a domain name is a must. After all, if you won't spend the few dollars for a domain name, how reliable is your product or service likely to be, and how seriously are you taking your business?

All paid hosting companies allow them, but if you want free hosting, using a domain name is often not allowed. You'll get a domain such as http://members.somefreehost.com/yourname where "somefreehost.com" is your hosting company, and "yourname" is the user name that you chose when you signed up.

Domain names aren't really "bought" - the domain you choose is only yours for a short time. A .com domain name is available for up to ten years, depending on various factors while others are only available for 2 years.

Multiverse Domains will send reminders several weeks before your domain will expire, so that you can cancel if I want to, and check that your credit card details are OK if I want to renew. Not all companies do this – however Multiverse Domains does.
